The Day I Met John Thornhill

8:15 pm

Yesterday I attended the last Glasgow Gathering at the Millenium Hotel for this year. All credit to Paul Chilvers- Grierson for organising these events and adopting a very simple formula to allow fellow marketers to meet up share stories, exchange ideas an have some good food and a couple of beers and some fun as well.

My train journey from Stonehaven to Glasgow was very productive as I was able to come up with lots of ideas for creating  information products. The best ideas seem to come when you are away from your normal working environment.

John Thornhill with George McGillivray

George McGillivray – John Thornhill

I think the fact I was about to meet John Thornhill, the coach for the Partnership to Success Programme, provided some inspiration to come up with some ideas. John is an expert in Product Creation and has helped hundreds of people to successfully create and promote their own products.

I have always looked up to John and when you see a photo of us together, it’s obvious I’ll be looking up to him every time I meet him.

Looking forward to sharing my ideas with him next week.

Seven Social Media Tips to Help Your Business

9:40 pm

Tip 1 – What’s your social media goal? If you don’t know where you want to go, it’s pretty hard to get there.

Tip 2 -Promote your most popular posts – and that goes for blog posts as well as social media posts.

Tip 3 – If you hate tracking, at least track with Facebook Insights. It’ll show you a lot about your Page progress.

Tip 4 – How do you get the conversation going on social media? Try humour and controversy. They’re very powerful.

Tip 5 -Social media is a powerful thing, but never mistake fooling around with being
productive. Stay focused!

Tip 6 – Click FB Insights’ “Posts; When Your Fans are Online” to see your audience’s peak posting times. (Post during these times!).

Tip 7– Look for questions repeated over and over on your chosen social networks. Provide the definitive answer.

George Burns Actor/Comedian

You Are Never Too Old for Success!

9:57 am

I am a great believer that you are never to late to learn. I think it was Tony Robbins who came up with the CANI principle which I try to follow.

That is Constant And Neverending Improvement

To continually improve you have to keep learning and you are never too old to learn

I love reading stories of people who achieve success quite late in life so will share some of them in this blog.

One of my favourite  stories about people achieving “success after 50” is one about George Burns (1896-1996). Although Burns, along with his wife and partner Gracie Allen, had enjoyed success in Vaudeville and in the early days of television, he hadn’t done a movie in 35 years and was considered a washed-up actor.

But at the age of 79 he got the opportunity to play the lead role in Neil Simon’s “The Sunshine Boys” with Walter Matthau after Jack Benny (one of his best friends who initially was to play the role) died unexpectedly.

The producers were very worried that Burn’s age might cause him to forget his lines. So about a week before filming was to begin, all of the cast members were asked to come in for a screenplay reading.

When Burns arrived without the manuscript, the director and producers feared his memory was worse than they had imagined. But to their amazement, George had memorised not only his lines but those of the other cast members.

His performance was so brilliant that he won an Oscar as Best Supporting Actor, thereby becoming the oldest winner in the history of the Academy Awards. He went on to do ten more movies until he was almost 100, and endeared himself to a new generation of movie-goers.

Principle: After experiencing early success, people may enter a period of stunted growth or failure.

George Burns’ success after 50 achievements can be summed up in one of his quotes: “The happiest people I know are the ones who are still working. The saddest are the ones who are retired.”

Action: You’re on the verge of an exciting new beginning when you ignore your failures or lack of progress. It’s never too late to rejuvenate an old career into a new one!

Please share if you can relate to this.

Glasgow Gathering July 18

My Glasgow Gathering Experience

11:04 am

George McGillivray here.

Today I want to talk about the Glasgow Gathering.

No it’s not a gathering of Scottish clans.

It’s a small gathering of Internet marketers who meet up by invitation in a hotel in Glasgow and spend a few hours in a room just sharing ideas and different experiences, enjoying a first class meal and a few drinks together.

I first heard of this from John Thornhill, one of my mentors in the Partnership to Success Programme, when I asked him if there were ever any Internet Marketing events held in Scotland.
I attended my first gathering earlier this year along with 4 others.

A very small group, but interesting people and I enjoyed it enough to attend the next one at the end of July 2018

A really interesting group freely sharing ideas and having fun. Dennis Champion passed on a few tips on Video Marketing and how his 11 year grand daughter could make videos.

This made me think as I had an 11 year old grandson and a 15 year old.

Recently we were looking after the two boys over a weekend and my daughter took them to St Cyrus Beach on a Saturday night.

The next morning I said to my 11 yr old grandson. Tell me about your trip to St Cyrus and I’ll show you how to make a video using some of the photos my daughter had taken.

He was intrigued. You can see his first attempt in the video above. This was done in around 20 minutes.

He was chuffed with what he done and maybe soon he could be helping me with creating videos.

I am looking forward to meeting Randy Smith and John Thornhill, who have been helping me a lot with ideas for blogging and product creation.

John Thornhill is a real specialist in Product Creation and it’s always nice to meet people you admire in person.

I can’t wait to see who else I will meet at the next Glasgow Gathering on Friday 28th September 2018.

If anyone is interested in learning how to create videos themselves for marketing, please get in touch

You’ll Never Walk Alone

11:42 pm

On Saturday 1st September, I had a unique opportunity to work with 86 other people from Barbershop choruses in Scotland at St Mathew’s Church in Perth.

When I am not working on Internet Marketing I love to sing and play guitar and about 3 years ago I joined a Barbershop Chorus, The Silver City Singers in Aberdeen. We entertain at Nursing Homes, Charity Events and Concerts.

There was a Macapella Event organised by the Rolling Hills Chorus and British Association of Barbershop Singers (BABS) in the church in Perth. 87 singers from all over Scotland took part.

We were all given around 3 weeks to learn our parts for the song from “Carousel” You’ll Never Walk Alone prior to receiving coaching from Linda Corcoran, a very experienced Musical Director.

From 9.30 am till 3.30 pm she worked with us all to produce a final performance as in the video below.

It was an amazing experience and a joy to be coached by someone with great skill and experience.

It made me realise that in business too, you should never walk alone and that is why I am enjoying even more learning from John Thornhill in the Partnership to Success Programme and from many other members as well.

John is an expert in Product Creation and if that is something that interests you I recommend attending his free Online Workshop.

If like me you enjoy singing try and join a barbershop chorus in your area. It’s great fun and you learn a lot. It’s good to have an interest outside your business.

This Simple Video Went Viral

9:28 pm

I run a local portal website to promote my home town and help local businesses to promote themselves. The site is stonehavenguide.net

I recently got a phone call from a lady on behalf of the BBC Landward TV programme to tell me that the Landward Food Van would be visiting Stonehaven on 29th August for filming 3 episodes for the next series planned for some time in September.

Celebrity chef Nick Nairn was going to be cooking local produce assisted  by Dougie Vipond former drummer with Deacon Blue and they would be at Stonehaven Harbour from 11am to 4pm on the day

I said I would announce this on the Stonehaven Guide Website and she was very happy about that. I asked her to email me the details and I was sent this

The Landward Food Van is out and about again, this time we’ll be in Stonehaven.   So if you fancy trying some of the best local produce cooked up by Nick and his trusty trainee, Dougie come down to the harbour on Wednesday 29th August.   We’ll be there from 11am to 4pm.

I asked for a couple of photos which I was sent

I decided to do an experiment and created the following video.

I posted it on the Stonehaven Guide Facebook Page and asked people to share it.

I was gobsmacked by the number of views and number of shares after just a few days

facebook post shares etc

This has given me some ideas for product creation as I am learning so much after attending a free workshop recently by John Thornhill

I will be visiting Stonehaven Harbour tomorrow and look forward to tasting some of the local produce and to see how many people turn up.

Success Go Get It

Who Wants Success in Business?

5:05 pm

Hi, George McGillivray here.

I was recently told a story by a wise man.

“When you go duck hunting, which ducks get shot?

It’s the one away from the group and the ones on the outside.

The ducks on the inside of the circle stay safe because they’ve got other ducks between them and the hunters.

The moral of this is that you want to get in close and inside the family — there’s protection in numbers.”

This is true in business as I have discovered as a member of the Partnership To Success Programme.

You get amazing help and ideas from the programme creator John Thornhill and other members of the group

John has created many successful products over the years and is now helping others to do the same.

The good news is that John has allowed me help you by inviting you to attend his online workshop.

You will learn how to set up your very own automated sales machine that can generate autopilot income 365 days a year.

This could put you well on your way to success.

The even better news is that it is Free to attend

Is It Too Late to Start Your Online Business?

11:57 am

Hi, George McGillivray here.

I loved this article by Alun Hill from alunhill.com

Her’s what he said.

“Not a month goes by that someone doesn’t tell me it’s too late to start an online business.
Rubbish.
There are businesses being started today, next year and in 10 years that will dwarf anything we’ve see thus far.
If you are just starting in your online marketing career, then you are very much on time.

Consider this:
New York is 3 hours ahead of California but it does not mean that California is slow, or that New York is fast. Both are working based on their own “Time Zone.”

Someone is still single.
Someone got married and ‘waited’ 10 years before having a child.
There is another who had a baby within a year of marriage.

Someone graduated at the age of 22, yet waited 5 years before securing a good job; and there is another who graduated at 27 and secured employment immediately!
Someone became CEO at 25 and died at 50 while another became a CEO at 50 and lived to 90 years.
Everyone works based on their own ‘Time Zone.’

People can have things worked out only according to their pace.
Work in your “time zone”.
Your colleagues, friends and younger ones might “seem” to go ahead of you.
Maybe some might “seem” behind you.

Everyone is in this world running their own race on their own lane in their own time.
There is a different plan for everybody.
Time is the difference.

Obama retired at 55, Trump started at 70.
Everyone in this world works based on their time zone.

People around you might seem to be ahead of you, and some might seem to be behind you.

But everyone is running their own race, in their own time.

Don’t envy them or mock them, they are in their ‘Time Zone,’ and you are in yours!
Hold on, be strong, and stay true to yourself. All things shall work together for your good.

You’re not late …
You’re not early …
You are very much on time!

“But… I Don’t Know How!”
“I want to start an online business but I don’t know how.”
“I want to start my own blog and list build but I don’t know how.”
“I want to create a product but I don’t know how.”
I want to [insert whatever it is you want to do] but I don’t know how.”

Well, guess what… neither did every single person who did it for the first time.

But you’ve got to take the leap anyway, and take it on faith that you will land on your feet.
Figuring things out on the fly is a learned skill.

And the more often you take the leap – any leap – without knowing exactly where you’re going to land, the better you get at it.

Plus, each time makes you better equipped to leap again and again and again.

Learning to operate at a high level within unknown scenarios is more valuable than learning a specific set of skills for a specific situation.
Prepare yourself mentally for being unprepared.
You can never anticipate the exact skills you will need until you need them. In fact, you don’t know what you don’t know until you find out you don’t know it.

You’re going to hit roadblocks.
Expect them.
And expect to crash through those roadblock to the other side, too.

Expect challenges.
Expect setbacks.
They are coming for you, so be prepared mentally.
Go in fighting, not retreating.

Keep your eye on the goal and nothing will stop you…
…but if you look only at the obstacles, you will never get far.
Think about this – your entire life you have been flying by the seat of your pants in one fashion or another.

Don’t stop now.

When they tell you to seize the day, they don’t mean tomorrow – they mean TODAY.”

I thought this was great advice and hope you do too. You are never too old to learn and there is help available for all age groups.
